Norwegian mountain cabin powered by LE-v150

When Trond Dalsveen was looking for a wind turbine to power for his family’s mountain cabin in Norway, he turned to the LE-v150 for a robust wind turbine that can survive the bad weather experienced at 950m above sea level.

The cabin on “Nevelfjell” is not far from Lillehammer where the 1994 Winter Olympics were held. Trond has two 80W solar panels generating power on sunny days but during bad weather, the Leading Edge LE-v150 comes into its own, providing power reliably, day and night.

I like the simple design of the LE-v150 – very few moving parts makes it a sturdy turbine. It needs to withstand strong winds, at 950m we usually have lots of changing weather. The most important consideration for me was a turbine with a low noise level as it is mounted on the side of the cabin and I don’t want it to disturb the family at night

The LE-v150 together with two 80w solar panels charge a 420ah AGM battery bank. Being a family of 5, a lot of power is needed for charging tablets, phones and powering water pumps, television and the electric lights. The control equipment includes a Tristar TS-60 set in Diversion mode to 500W dump load and a Tristar TS-60 for load control.

Trond is a model airplane enthusiast and enjoys flying the radio controlled airplanes in the surrounding mountains; as all his airplanes are electric being able to charge them during vacations and weekends is vital.
