Solar Trailer Refurb and Upgrade
G4S have a fleet of Solar Trailer CCTV units that needed complete refurbishment following 4/5 years of operation at Hinkley Point C nuclear power station. The batteries were failing, parts were badly corroded and the control gear and monitoring capability was limited.
Leading Edge Power offered G4S 4 levels of service:
Physical refurbishment, replacing and repainting the corroded parts
Upgrading of the Solar modules
Upgrading of the battery chemistry (AGM to Lithium)
Upgrade of the monitoring system
The Challenge
The client chose the fullupgrade of their fleet at Hinckley. The trailer was stripped, chemically dipped and powder coated. Any excessively corroded parts were drawn up on CAD, fabricated and replaced. The Solar output was increased from 1.38Kwp to 1.8Kwp, using 4 x bifacial 450w glass-glass modules. The solar rails were redesigned and replaced with Stainless Steel parts to resist corrosion and provide greater strength. The battery storage was increased from 8.64Kwhrs of useable storage to 13.5Kwhrs using LEP’s rack style battery upgrade. The control system was upgraded to provide remote portal access to all operational system data. We now have a contract to refurbish the existing stock at Hinckley.
