G4S Nuclear
G4S are responsible for security and surveillance of all aspects of the construction of the 3.2GW nuclear power station under construction on the East Sussex coast. The challenge is the site is constrained the North Sea one the east, an RSPB reserve on the north and a nuclear power station to the south. The new reactors will be constructed on the land to the west known as the Temporary Construction site. There are major logistics under construction including new roads, railways and accommodation and parking for the construction workers. G4S needed a combination of flexible Off-Grid power solutions to meet this ever-changing environment.
The Challenge
G4S were looking for an Off-Grid portable power system that was compact, reliable and portable. LEP had developed the PowerBox2 as a plug and play versatile Power supply based on an evolution of the PowerBox1 developed in 2014. The principal design challenge was to provide an Off-grid Power system that could meet the clients power demands but was built on a footprint of 1200mm x 1200mm.
PB2 offers approx. 1Kwp of solar using 3 x bespoke high voltage panels developed for LEP positioned facing East, West and South. 15Kwhrs of rack style LiFO battery storage, an electric mast and a back up generator. The system offers remote monitoring and control and provides the team with complete system oversight from their control room.
G4S have 1 x PTZ cameras and 2 x Bullet cameras, 4G routers, PIR GSM Speech & text and PIP links. The continuous power demand is circa. 110w.
