Renewable Energy Meets Emergency Preparedness
Each year in the UK, more than 30,000 people suffer an out-of-hospital cardiac arrest, yet survival rates remain shockingly low. For every minute that passes without defibrillation, the chance of survival decreases by 7-10%. Rapid access to life-saving equipment is therefore essential, however, many of these medical emergencies happen in outdoor or remote locations where there is no electricity supply and power for heated defibrillator cabinets simply doesn’t exist.
Recognising the life-saving potential of improved defibrillator access to vulnerable remote locations, Turtle Medical set about finding a solution and partnered with Leading Edge Power to create a fully off-grid, wind-powered defibrillator system that could operate in remote or sprawling environments, such as golf courses, where electrical infrastructure is often unavailable.
Using the LE-v50 vertical-axis small wind turbine, defibrillator cabinets can now be safely powered wherever they're needed, dramatically reducing emergency response times and improving chance of survival.

The Challenge
Golf courses present a unique problem:

Should a cardiac emergency occur, the timely availability of a defibrillator is critical. However, powering heated defibrillator cabinets in these remote locations can be both cost-prohibitive and technically challenging.
Our Solution
After reviewing load requirements, Turtle Medical and Leading Edge Power determined that the LE-v50 was the perfect fit for powering heated defibrillator cabinets across multiple golf course locations. The LE-v50 is a compact and efficient turbine designed specifically to trickle charge batteries for remote applications, making it ideal for powering essential services in areas lacking infrastructure.
